Hello Dear
Friends
Mrs. Claus and I would love to present to all our friends our wish for Joy,
Love and Happiness during this Holiday Season. Happy Hanukkah, Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope that this site will bring you all
just a little bit of enjoyment. I also hope that I don't offend or make
too big a mistake in my attempt to share all our Love of all that is good in
this world. Mrs. Claus and I believe that We must be open to people of all
Faiths and Nationalities, no matter what. Therefore, on this page and it's
related pages I would like to attempt to create a look into the Jewish
Celebration of Hanukkah or Chanukah.
Chanukah will occur on the
following days of the Gregorian calendar:
-
Jewish Year 5771:
sunset December 1, 2010 - nightfall December 9, 2010
(first candle: night of 12/1; last candle: night of 12/8)
-
Jewish Year 5772:
sunset December 20, 2011 - nightfall December 28, 2011
(first candle: night of 12/20; last candle: night of 12/27)

Let's start now with the Menorah and
some of the traditions associated with it.

Background music "Eight Days of
Chanukah."
On each night of Hanukkah,
the menorah is lit to commemorate a miracle which occurred after the
Jews proclaimed victory over the Syrian armies in 165 B.C.E. When Jews
came to rededicate the Temple (which had been defiled by the Syrians)
they
found only one small flask of oil with which to light the menorah.
This
flask contained only enough oil for one day, yet the lamp burned for
eight days by which time a fresh supply of oil was obtained.
–
In Israel, the Hanukkah menorah is called the Hanukiyah
