As a part of the official duties  at NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), they are tasked to Track Santa as he makes his treck around the world on Christmas Eve.

This information is posted on the NORAD Tracks Santa web page.  Tracking begins at 4:00 am MST on December 24th. and will 
continue until 3:00 am MST on December 25th.
